2 Ingredient Pizza Dough

I’m all about recipe shortcuts. From one bowl, no mess cakes to 15 minute dinners, anything that makes the process easy and still delicious, I’m willing to try!

So after seeing a 2 ingredient pizza base on Buzzfeed, I was sold. Making any kind of dough is very time consuming, from the kneading to the rising to working with yeast – eek!  It all takes time, especially if - like me -  you don’t have a stand mixer that kneads it all for you too!

Lazy goals.

Sometimes you just don’t have that time when you’ve come in from work and you’re craving pizza and you’re this close to hangry.

The magic two ingredients this dough needs? Self raising flour and greek yoghurt. Yes, that’s right, there is yoghurt in this pizza dough. And the best news? No rise time at all!

Before you all go running for the hills over a pizza having yoghurt in, rest assured this pizza has no yoghurt flavour at all.

No yeast does mean a lack of flavour, which means it's all about the toppings! The base still produces a crispy and chewy dough like you wouldn’t believe.

Having trialed the pizza dough for a few months now, I’ve cracked the perfect way to cook it and the tricks along the way.

Hint: there’s some kneading involved.

Brushing the top with olive oil helps give this dough a lovely crispy texture and also adds flavour to it. Also, cooking it for a few minutes before adding the toppings aids an even bake.

While reading some comments from others who have tried this out, some complained about the base sticking to the pans they baked them on and yes, I had the same issue when I did it the first time.

However, this third tip cured that problem for me: Semolina. My dad, a former chef, was the one to suggest it to me and it worked like a dream. By covering your baking sheet in first olive oil then a coating of semolina, it gives the base a lovely texture but also works as a layer for the pizza to stick to – instead of the pan!

Bonus tip: a tray with holes in the base also helps the dough to cook evenly and allows for air to ventilate through.

With all of these little tricks, this 2 ingredient pizza dough is your next no fail recipe. It helps that it can be prepared, cooked and on the table ready to be devoured in 30 minutes too.

The same time it takes to deliver a Dominoes... if that gives you any motivation to give it a go... or have I just made you reach for your menu?

This pizza is perfect for rushed evenings when you want some quick, easy and great tasting. And of course lots of cheese. I'm all about cheesy pizzas.

I never said this had to be a healthy pizza...

Two Ingredient Pizza Dough

Ingredients

Dough:
245g (1 cup) Greek yoghurt
200g (1 and 1/2 cup) Self raising flour

Toppings:
Olive oil (for baking tray and on top of dough)
3 tbsp Semolina
2-3 tbsp Pizza sauce
Mozerella cheese
Cheddar cheese
Basil

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to gas mark 6/200°C/400°F
  2. Throw the greek yoghurt and self raising flower in a bowl, mix it together until combined. If you have a stand mixer, use the dough hook attachment to knead the mixture until smooth. Or by hand, knead the combined mixture on a floured surface. If done by hand, the mixture can be sticky to begin with, but throw some extra flour down to help and knead until smooth.
  3. Roll out your pizza dough until desired size (that can fit the tray!), with the dough roughly a 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Grab a tray (I used a round tray, with holes in the base - these are best). Cover with olive oil and then sprinkle your semolina all over it in a thick layer. The semolina helps it not stick as much to the tray.
  5. Next brush olive oil over pizza base and place in the oven to bake the base for 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven, you might see that it has puffed up a bit, that's fine! While it's still hot, spread the pizza sauce and then sprinkle that cheese everywhere! The cheesier the better I say. Or maybe not that much cheese if we want to keep this a "healthier" choice. Top with whatever your hearts desire. Then palace back in the oven for a further 7-10 minutes. Watch it carefully and remove from oven when the cheese is melted and the crust is a golden brown.
  7. Slice up and enjoy your super easy pizza dough!
